Terra Drone creates a variety of 3D models ranging from small objects such as individual houses, castles or offshore platforms up to entire city blocks. The method of creating these 3D models is using photogrammetry. A large number of overlapping images are made using a drone or a manned aircraft and these are automatically stitched together and processed to form a point cloud.
The point cloud is then transformed into a mesh whereby small triangles are created between the points in the point cloud. The photogrammetric software then creates a texture for each of the thousands of triangles by extracting a small portion of the original photograph.
The result is a realistic looking 3D model that can be viewed from all angles.
