Infra red drone inspection for energy efficiency and sustainability
Besides normal visual inspections, Terra Drone Europe has vast experience is specialised in Infrared Drone Inspections. The aim of these drone inspections is to map heat differences using a non invasive or destructive testing method. These are often the outward sign of a deeper problem. With these heat differences, it can be made clear where, for example, heat loss occurs in buildings, where insulation is defective or where water ingress occurs. The latter will cause Rott or moulds.
Another use of detecting heat differences is detecting emerging or existing electrical problems. Most electrical problems will cause the resistance to increase in a conductor which in turn generates heat. These problems are usually not detectable by the human eye but an infrared drone inspection can find this in seconds.
The advantage of using a drone for these inspections is that the drone is able to reach those places which are normally unsafe or inaccessible. In addition the ‘bird eye’ view gives a complete overview.
Another application is to look at the efficiency of solar panels. Solar (photovoltaic) cells that do not work properly become warmer than those that do, and so these defective cells can easily be mapped.
It is also possible to check whether the burners in flare installations work properly and are not clogged. Badly burning flare tips will give off less heat than the working tips.
